Burk’s Falls has always been a river village. David Francis Burk arrived by canoe at the foot of the falls on the Magnetawan River in 1875, the steamboat Pioneer started running the twenty-mile stretch to Magnetawan in 1879, and the railway followed in 1885. Today the falls and dam, the Heritage River Walk, and the Screaming Heads sculpture field out on Highway 520 give a village of under a thousand people a visitor profile far larger than its population suggests.
We are a destination store rather than a corner shop, and we stock accordingly. Customers who make the drive are usually doing one of three things: travelling south anyway, stocking up in volume, or looking for something their local shelf does not carry.
